Port Richmond Avenue runs south from the Kill Van Kull through a mile and change of two- and three-story mixed-use buildings — retail at street level, apartments above. We're at 519. If you're working anywhere on this corridor, you're walking distance.
There's real activity on the avenue right now. Community Health Centers of Richmond is converting a former brownfield into a public health site — that's brownfield remediation crews, hazmat, civil sub work, then the vertical build. 221 Port Richmond Avenue brought a six-story, 48-unit affordable mixed-use building. SIEDC has been pushing DRI streetscape investment that's starting to break ground in pieces. And there's the constant rhythm of small-shop fit-outs and residential rehab on the side blocks running off Castleton.
What we stock for this corridor is mixed because the trades are mixed. Brownfield remediation needs Tyvek, half-mask, and disposable nitrile in bulk — we keep cases. Concrete and masonry crews on the new builds want Carhartt double-knees that survive a season of getting wet, plus Wolverine or CAT boots they can hose off. Finish carpenters and tile guys on the rowhouse rehabs ask for Thorogood softer-toe oxfords or Red Wing 8-inch lace-ups, depending on whether they're inside or going up on staging.
The Bayonne Bridge is two blocks north and that means trucking in and out of Mariners Harbor and the container terminal. Plenty of drivers and yard guys swing in on lunch — we keep the marine-grade gloves, the hi-vis raingear, and the Rothco insulated coveralls behind the counter so we can grab and ring up in three minutes.
Walk-in is the move on Port Richmond. We open 11 AM, close 8 PM, seven days. If you're a foreman and you need to send a kid for a pair of replacement boots mid-shift, send him over — five minutes off the clock, ten if there's parking trouble. He'll come back with the boot you specced.
Custom printing — screen, vinyl, embroidery — happens in the back. No minimums. If a small shop on the avenue is getting their first three uniforms together, we can do three. Doesn't matter. Net-30 fleet accounts open at five items, which most contractors hit on a single hi-vis order for the crew.
Port Richmond is home base. The avenue knows us. If you're new to a job here, walk in and ask for whoever's behind the counter.
