Two of the most-asked-about wedge boots in the shop. Here's how they actually compare on the foot.

The Wolverine Floorhand and the Thorogood American Heritage 814-4200 are the two wedge boots customers cross-shop most. Same general silhouette — moc toe, wedge sole, leather upper — but different price points and different builds.

Wolverine Floorhand. $130-150. Steel toe. Goodyear welt construction. Imported. Cushioned insole. Solid value boot. We sell a lot of them to electricians, HVAC techs, and warehouse leads.

Thorogood 814-4200. $230-260. Soft toe (steel toe is a separate model). Goodyear storm welt construction. Made in USA, union-built. Removable insole that's roughly twice as thick as the Floorhand's. Wears in to your foot in a way the Wolverine doesn't quite.

On comfort, the Thorogood wins clearly. The insole and the leather are both better. The break-in is shorter. After 200 hours, a Thorogood molds to your foot in a way that's noticeable when you switch back.

On cost-per-month, the Wolverine wins for guys who go through boots fast. If you destroy a wedge in 8-10 months because of paint, chemicals, or extreme abrasion, $230 is hard to justify.

On longevity if maintained — Thorogood, no contest. Three resoles, five years of use, the upper still looks good. Wolverine's a one-life boot for most guys.

If it's your first wedge, start with Wolverine. If you're sold on the silhouette and you want the upgrade, Thorogood's worth every dollar. Both are stocked at Wolverine and Thorogood on the wall.
