Timberland Pro in Staten Island is at Quazi Supply, 519 Port Richmond Avenue, 10302. Open 11 to 8 every day. We stock the Pit Boss, the Boondock, and the newer TiTAN line — composite, alloy steel, and traditional steel-toe options across the wall, plus the wedge soles for guys who don't want a heel break on flat decking.

Most of what people are after when they walk in asking for Timberland Pro is one of three boots. The 6-inch Pit Boss steel-toe is the workhorse — leather upper, electrical hazard rated, the boot you see on every other framer in Stapleton. Important fit note: the Pit Boss runs roomy. Size down a half from your sneaker size. If you wear an 11 in a Nike, you probably want a 10.5 in the Pit Boss. We tell every walk-in this on the floor because nine out of ten people get it wrong on their first pair.

Boondock is the next one up. Composite or alloy toe, more aggressive lug, better support in the arch, and it runs true to size — order what you wear. The Boondock HD is the variant the heavy-equipment operators and the highway DOT guys ask for. It's heavier on the foot than a Pit Boss but the upper holds shape after a year of abuse where the Pit Boss starts to break down at the flex point.

The TiTAN line is newer and worth a look. Lighter platform, slip-on or lace, alloy or composite toe, and an EVA midsole that takes some of the all-day fatigue out of the Boondock. Electricians and HVAC techs who walk a lot of square footage and don't want to feel a steel toe by hour eight have been moving onto TiTAN. The TiTAN EV (electrician variant) is composite-toe and EH-rated — no metal anywhere near the foot.

Toe options matter and the question we get most is which one. Steel toe is the cheapest, heaviest, and the one that gets cold first in February. Alloy steel is lighter steel — same protection, less weight. Composite is non-metallic, doesn't conduct cold, doesn't trip a metal detector at a court house or a security checkpoint. If you're an electrician who steps near a panel, composite is the right call. If you're a framer who isn't worried about EH and wants the cheapest reliable boot, steel is fine. We'll tell you the same thing on the floor.

"Pit Boss runs roomy. Size down a half. We tell every walk-in this — nine out of ten get it wrong on their first pair."

The wedge sole question. Carhartt and Thorogood both make wedge soles too, and a lot of people walk in asking for 'the wedge.' Timberland Pro Boondock and the Direct Attach 6-inch are both available in wedge. Roofers reach for it because the flat sole doesn't tear up a membrane. Electricians and finish carpenters working on wood floors all day reach for it because the heel doesn't dig. If you're staging on a metal deck, the wedge isn't the right call — you want a lugged sole.

On the apparel side, Timberland Pro has a respectable workwear line we carry less of. The Gen 2 work pant in the canvas weight, a few of the henleys, beanies and watch caps in winter. We don't try to compete with the Carhartt wall on apparel — Timberland Pro is in our shop because of the boots.

Trades that show up asking for Timberland Pro by name: union framers and laborers (Pit Boss is a Local 79 favorite), concrete crews (Boondock HD survives wet pours better than most), electricians (TiTAN EV is the right pick for live work), highway and DOT guys (Boondock 8-inch with the high upper for the loose stone), and warehouse and yard guys at Mariners Harbor who want a steel toe at the lowest reliable price point — that's still the Pit Boss.

Pricing is the conversation we have with every fleet customer. Pit Boss sits in the $130-$150 range. Boondock $180-$220. TiTAN $200-$240. If you're outfitting eight guys, fleet pricing on five-plus pairs is real. Net-30 terms, volume discount, jobsite delivery if you don't want to send a runner.

Walk in or call. 519 Port Richmond Avenue, 10302. Try the boot on with the sock you actually wear at work. We have the foam pads and the lacing tricks for both the Pit Boss roomy fit and the Boondock high-arch fit. Bring lunch.
