The 209-acre park, the reservoir, the golf course, and the eighty-eight-home enclave above Forest Avenue. Higher-end remodel, restoration, and parks-facility maintenance work.

Silver Lake Park is 209 acres — the borough's response to Central Park. The Silver Lake Reservoir, created in 1917 and fed from the Ashokan Reservoir 119 miles upstate, is the largest body of fresh water on Staten Island. Around the park: stately old architecture, mid-century moderns, mid-rise brick apartment buildings, and the eighty-eight-home Silver Lake Park Association enclave above Forest Avenue. Three large cemeteries line Victory Boulevard. The 18-hole Silver Lake Golf Course runs through the park itself.

We're 10 to 15 minutes east via Forest Avenue. Easy reach.

What the neighborhood actually buys: higher-end single-family remodel and historic-home restoration, apartment-building maintenance, landscape work, golf-course and parks-facility maintenance contracting.

Historic-home restoration in the enclave is finish-trade work. Trim and millwork carpenters want Thorogood American-made oxfords with the softer toe — the period interiors don't forgive a hard toe scuffing the chestnut floors. The painters want Carhartt double-front canvas pants and the bib coveralls for the prep season. Slate and tile roofers want Cougar Paws and hi-vis class 2 minimum on the steeper pitches.

"Trim and millwork carpenters want Thorogood American-made oxfords with the softer toe — the period interiors don't forgive a hard toe scuffing the chestnut floors."

Mid-rise apartment-building maintenance pulls the daily kit. Carhartt rugged flex dungarees, Wolverine Floorhand boots, Klein and Knipex pliers at the counter, cut gloves and nitrile by the case. The supers walking in for replacement gear know us.

Parks and golf-course maintenance contracting is a Silver Lake specialty most people don't think about. Landscape crews working the 209-acre park, golf-course turf and irrigation contractors, tree work in the park's mature canopy, and the parks-facility electrical, plumbing, and carpentry maintenance. Carhartt double-front canvas pants for the brush and stone work, Wolverine waterproofs for spring mud, the Stihl and Echo two-cycle gear at the counter, cut gloves and chainsaw chaps for the tree crews.

Cemetery maintenance contractors — three large cemeteries on Victory Boulevard — buy a similar landscape and grounds kit. The Carhartt OJ insulated coveralls for late-fall and winter work, the Wolverine waterproof 8-inch for the wet ground, hi-vis class 2 in the access roads.

Silver Lake contractors hit fleet-account volume on the multi-property maintenance contracts. Five items per order, net-30, volume pricing, weekly delivery to the maintenance shop or the staging trailer.

Custom embroidery on softshells, polos, and beanies — what the higher-end remodelers and the parks-maintenance contractors both ask for. In-house, no minimums, three-day turn.
