Honest take from a boot shop. We're not going to pretend you can't get good boots online. You can. The selection is endless and the price is sometimes lower.
What online wins. Selection — every model in every size in every width. Reviews from thousands of strangers. No drive, no parking, no decision pressure. If you already know exactly what model and size you wear, online is fine.
What we win. Fit. The single biggest reason guys buy a boot, hate it, and never wear it is fit. Online sizing is a guess based on the chart. In the shop you put both boots on, walk on the floor, stand for two minutes, lace them tight. We can tell within 30 seconds whether the boot is right for your foot. We've fit 2,000 feet a year for years.
"An online boot that doesn't fit is a $200 box that becomes a footstool."
What we win on, less obviously. Width. A lot of boot brands have a single width listed online but actually run wide or narrow. We know which models run small, which run roomy, which need a half size up. The chart doesn't tell you that.
What we win on, financially. Returns. A boot that doesn't fit is a $200 mistake online — boxing it back up, paying return shipping, waiting two weeks for the credit. In the shop you swap for a different size on the spot.
What we won't pretend. We're not always cheaper. We're sometimes the same, sometimes $5-15 more. The fit guarantee is what you're paying for.
If you've worn the same model 5 years running, buy online. If you're new to the model or you're not sure, come in. We're at 519 Port Richmond Ave, open 11 to 8 every day.
